“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us” (Eph. 3:20).
As we seek God for overflowing increase this season, we need to have adequate knowledge of the God we seek, for us to be strong in faith. One of the problems the believers have in dealing with God is that we don’t have adequate knowledge of God, which makes it difficult for us to embrace Him with the required faith to receive from Him. For how can we have faith in something or someone we don’t have true knowledge of? Little wonder then, the scripture declares, “my people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea. 4:6), or “my people have gone into captivity for lack of knowledge” (Isa. 5:13). The point is that the more knowledge of God we have, the stronger our faith will be to receive from Him, ultimately leading to more blessing upon us, in our relationship with Him.
In our anchor verse for the present message, the scripture gives us significant insight of the nature of God and the extent to which He could release His blessing upon the believers, particularly those who truly have faith in Him. Let us look at some of those things, one by one. First is that God is “able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask Him”. This statement itself connotes three revelations about God’s ability. I) God is able to give us everything we may ask of Him. This means that there is nothing at all we ask from God that He is not able to give to us. If you think deeply about this then you will realise that this is what makes God a unique personality, because there is no person at all in this world that has this ability.
II) God is not just able to give us what we ask, He is in fact able to give it in excess (above what we ask). He probably does this to confirm that His path truly drips with abundance and surplus, as reflected in His word (Psa. 65:11; Psa. 23:5). III) God is not just able to give excess, He is in fact, able to give exceedingly and abundantly even in excess – above all that we ask Him. At the end of the day, this is one way that God tends to show His power, to prove that He has resources that can never be exhausted.
The second part of the anchor verse in focus says that, He also responds to what we think, not only what we ask. This is an awesome thing because it means that God is not only mindful of what we say, but also mindful of what we think and can respond to such thinking (our thoughts). But what is probably more awesome is the fact that He is able to respond to the requests we have in our heart by giving to us, even in abundant and exceeding excess (just as He does regarding the things we voice out). Of course, it goes without saying that it is only the Almighty God who can access our thoughts so confidently and effectively like that. The focus at this point is to encourage us to approach God with unwavering confidence, as we seek Him for overflowing increase, in every area of our lives, this season. In fact, I see Joel. 2:24 manifesting in our midst, like never before. If you can receive it, you can have it, in Jesus’ name!
